One popular method for documents, especially when dealing with complicated formulas, is LaTeX. Here are a few LaTeX-related resources.
LaTeX at Queens
Graduate Students have made required changes over the years to a LaTeX style file that meets the requirements of the School of Graduate Studies, this style file can be downloaded here: quthesis.zip.
Additionally, you can take a look at an existing Thesis Template, along with Windows and UNIX online tutorials that will get you well on your way.
These templates are provided as is. We simply don’t have the resources to constantly maintain it. That being said, we hope you find them useful.

- “A Guide to LATEX: Document Preparation for Beginners and Advanced Users”, Helmut Kopka. This book is exactly what it says – geared for both beginners and advanced users; it is especially helpful for bibtex. ISBN 0201398257.
